Year you started the Neuroscience Program: 2005

Why you chose the UC Denver Neuroscience Program: I love Colorado and really felt that the university environment was one of collaboration as opposed to competition.

What labs you rotated in: Curt Freed, Diego Restrepo, Manisha Patel, Kevin Staley

What lab you joined and why: Patel lab—I love my project and felt particularly comfortable in the lab environment.

Short description of your project: I am studying mechanisms by which the ketogenic diet may alter mitochondrial function and therefore play a role in its protection against seizures and neuronal death.

Where you attended undergrad and what your major/minor(s) were: Washington University in St. Louis. Biology and a program called Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology

What you did (if anything) between undergrad and grad school: I worked with AmeriCorps for one year, tutoring and mentoring inner city middle school kids. Then I was a lab technician for a year, in lab studying the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Other school affiliated activities/clubs you are involved in: N/A

What you like to do outside of school: Walk my dog, movies, music, ski—though there's not all that much time I consider "outside of school"!
