Denver and Nearby Attractions
Denver is an active, growing metropolitan area of nearly two million
people. The population as a whole is highly educated and physically active. Denver
and Colorado offer a variety of artistic
and cultural attractions, including the Denver
Museum of Natural History, Denver Art Museum, Botanical Gardens, the Colorado
Symphony Orchestra, and many resident and roadshow theaters. The Denver
Performing Arts Complex is the second largest performing arts center in the
country.
Residents enjoy the nation's largest city park system, with a
series of biking and hiking paths which wind throughout the city. Excellent
concerts are held every year, many in beautiful outdoor settings such as the Red
Rocks Ampitheater in the foothills. Professional
baseball,
football, hockey,
and basketball events are only minutes
from the Health Sciences Center campus.
For those interested in mountain sports, Colorado has a wide
variety of deep-powder ski areas,
hiking and mountain biking trails, backpacking, technical rock climbing,
whitewater rafting, and excellent fishing streams. Rocky
Mountain National Park and other spectacular wilderness areas are located
within a few hours of
Denver.
Climate
Even with its mile high elevation, Denver has a relatively
mild and dry climate with average winter temperatures near 45°F. The summers are
warm (average 85°F) and dry, with cool (55°F) nights. The sun shines about 300
days a year, and the metro area receives only 15 inches of precipitation each
year.
