Colorado Begins Expanded Newborn Screening

On July 1, 2006, the mandatory Colorado newborn screening program, which had previously only tested for seven metabolic diseases, expanded to include testing for 23 additional metabolic diseases.

The state newborn screening program’s panel of conditions is now comparable to that offered by the UCHSC Biochemical Genetics Laboratory's Expanded Newborn Screening Program. Please be aware that information printed in our program’s old brochures, comparing the UCHSC Biochemical Genetics Laboratory's Expanded Newborn Screening to the Colorado state newborn screening, is now obsolete.

For additional information about Colorado's mandatory expanded newborn screening program, visit the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (clicking on this link will open a new browser window).
