University of Colorado Hospital names interim president

Joyce Cashman
Interim UCH President
and CEO

The University of Colorado Hospital Authority Board of Directors approved the appointment of Joyce Cashman as interim president and chief executive officer. The appointment will be effective in June, when current President and CEO Dennis Brimhall departs his position to serve and preside over a mission in his church. Brimhall has been active in leadership roles and unpaid ministry in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many years.

Cashman has served as executive vice president of University of Colorado Hospital since 1995. Prior to that she served as vice president of operations and chief operation officer of the hospital from 1993-1995, and held various executive and head nursing positions at a number of Denver area hospitals since 1974. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Colorado Insurance Pool, and on the leadership committee for the Mile High United Way Resource Core.

“Joyce Cashman is a seasoned and capable senior hospital executive,” said Dr. James Shore, chancellor of UCDHSC. “She is widely admired for her vision, integrity and commitment to excellence in patient care.”
Cashman received her master’s of science in nursing degree from the University of Colorado in 1974. She completed a master’s in health administration at CU in 1984, and further post graduate studies from 1984-1988.

She’s received numerous awards including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Colorado Health Administration Alumni Association and a leadership award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

“I am pleased with the decision to appoint Joyce as interim president of the hospital,” Brimhall said. “Her vision ensures the hospital will be able to continue to grow and capture the enormous potential of the new hospital and surrounding medical campus at Fitzsimons. She was my recommendation to the board. She will do a great job.”
