Keeping the HSC Communities Safe

University of Colorado Police Department

The Health Sciences Center (HSC) Police Department has a job to do – as you do. Our job is to provide for your safety and security in the campus environment.

HSC police officers receive their authority from the provisions of the Colorado Revised Statues, Title 24, Article 7, Part 1, and have the authority and obligation to enforce University rules and regulations, as well as State laws. In addition, we are able to act as a resource for various safety and security topics.

Recently, much of the University Police Department has relocated to the Fitzsimons campus. However, full police services are being maintained at both the Ninth Ave. and Fitzsimons campuses.

In an effort to assist employees and with awareness regarding their personal safety, the University Police Department will offer safety tips each month, in the Online Bridge. In addition, the department has a line for your questions, comments and suggestions, at 303-724-0800. The messages are reviewed by the Chief of Police on a regular basis.

January 2005 Safety Tips
Providing for Your Personal Safety

You walk the same route every day. You feel safe when you walk around the campus or in your own neighborhood. But are you really thinking about your safety? The police can provide help if something happens, but these tips just might prevent something from happening. After all, your safety has to start with you. These tips may help.

Be aware of your surroundings when walking
Stay in well-lighted areas, away from alleys, bushes and entryways
Walk confidently, directly, and at a steady pace
If you are in trouble, attract attention any way you can. Yell, call for help, shout “fire,” or break a window

As a last note for January 2005 Safety Tips, remember these numbers:
For emergency police assistance: Call 911 from any campus phone
For routine campus police services: Ninth Ave.: 303-315-8888
Fitzsimons: 303-724-4444

See you – safely – next month!
