Fifth year of Sushi, Sake & Sumo

Generations Cancer Foundation (GCF) celebrates its fifth anniversary by bringing back its original cancer-research benefit: Sushi, Sake & Sumo. The one-of-a-kind event will take place at INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium on Friday, May 20, at 8 p.m.

Proceeds from this year’s event benefit the CU Cancer Center Proteomics Core (CCPC). CCPC, which utilizes cutting-edge technologies to identify and quantify proteins in biological tissues and fluids, works closely with clinical and translational researchers to develop a better understanding of cancer, its causes, diagnosis, treatment and cures.

Event-goers are invited to enjoy sushi from a variety of local restaurants, sample sake and cheer on U.S. Sumo wrestlers. For the Sumo wrestler at heart, GCF will bring back the padded sumo suits so patrons can challenge friends and colleagues to a friendly match in the ring.

And, for those not ready to hit the mat there will be plenty of other activities throughout the night, including a live band, an extensive silent auction, and authentic Asian attractions like Tyko drummers. New to this year’s event, patrons will have an opportunity to mingle in a special lounge through a pre-purchased, VIP package.

Amy Venturi founded the non-profit organization in 2001. She wanted to create an organization that raised money and awareness for cancer research and prevention by involving younger generations in philanthropy. Since its inception, GCF and its committee of volunteers have hosted a variety of fundraising events including Sushi, Sake & Sumo, Blues, Booze & Boxing and Tapas, Tequila & Twister.

To date, GCF has raised more than $250,000 for cancer research in Colorado. In addition to the money raised, GCF has educated thousands about cancer prevention and cancer research taking place here in Colorado.

Tickets to Sushi, Sake & Sumo cost $50 in advance or $65 at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Amy Venturi or Jamie Miller at (303) 592-7660 or visit www.generationscancerfoundation.org.

Tickets can also be purchased at Larimer Square shops.
