University of Colorado Professor, Dr. Phillip S. Wolf, Recognized as a "Gold Doc" by Appreciative Patients

Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Dr. Phillip S. Wolf, Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine in Denver has been recognized as a "Gold Doc" by the New Jersey based not-for-profit Arnold P. Gold Foundation. Dr. Wolf, who was nominated by several of his Denver area patients, will be honored at a dinner on December 29th at the home of Lee and Barbara Mendel. He will be presented with a Gold Foundation certificate and "Humanism in Medicine" lapel pin. The Foundation's "Gold Doc" program, which recognizes outstanding role model doctors nominated by their patients for "keeping compassionate care prominent in the practice of medicine," is one of more than 20 innovative medical education programs encouraging and fostering humanism in medicine.

According to Barbara Emery Mendel, daughter of Dr. Wolf's patient, Elizabeth Sadwith of Florida, Dr. Wolf is: "the epitome of a medical professional who fosters Humanism in Medicine. Dr. Wolf was not only responsive; he was attentive, empathetic to Mom's fears of surgery and clearly understood her reluctance to go through the procedure. He was also very clear in his explanation of how her health would be remarkably improved within a short period of time following surgery. ..Once Mom returned to my home to recuperate, Dr. Wolf again made several house calls to check her and then took over her post-surgical care. .he was available, responsive and compassionate, not only to Mom but to our whole family."

Carol and Larry Levin wrote that Dr. Wolf "is a true humanitarian who's care of and dedication to his patients is legendary. His compassionate medical care, skills and professional excellence has been manifest throughout his entire career, making him the consummate model for both his students and practicing physicians in all fields of medicine. In addition, this modest, soft spoken giant of a care giver is a kind and compassionate human being both in and outside of his medical practice and adheres to the highest standards of ethics and morality."

Ninety year old patient and admirer, Bernard J. Schaffer wrote that Dr. Wolf ".respects all people—even those with whom he may disagree. .Whether it is the mysteries of science, religion or philosophy-or politics- or the pursuit of aesthetic joy to be derived from art, literature and classical music-he is always an active participant. And with all this on his plate, he is still Phil Wolf .always there for his wife and family, for his many friends and for people he barely knows who may need him. Indeed, Phil Wolf is a human treasure."
