Participants Sought for "Families on the Move" Study
DENVER (Oct. 11, 2004) — The University of Colorado Denver is recruiting families to participate in a fun, family-based and child-oriented research study on the effects that increasing daily steps has on weight loss and weight maintenance. Researchers are seeking 200 families for a one-year study in which kids and their parents will learn about physical fitness and nutrition.
The goal of the study is to help children maintain their weight and prevent weight gain by increasing their daily steps by 2,000 a day and reducing caloric intake by 100 calories a day by cutting down on sweets. During the first six months of the study, families will have close interaction with the study staff, and must attend a monthly family meeting.
To qualify for the Families on the Move study, led by the Center for Human Nutrition at CU-Health Sciences Center, participants must be:
- Children between the ages of 7-14, with at least one participating parent
- Children must fit certain weight and height requirements
CU-Health Sciences Center is offering compensation for participation in this study. Interested participants should contact Susan Rodearmel at 303-315-9001 or Susan.Rodearmel@uchsc.edu.
