WHAT: America on the Move Day of Action, a day set aside each year to encourage Americans to pledge to add 2,000 steps to their day and reduce their calories by 100 to ward off weight gain and improve their overall health. The walking event is one of several that will occur across the United States.
WHO: Coloradans who have taken the pledge will participate, including local dignitaries Colorado First Lady Frances Owens, CU President Hank Brown, Broomfield Mayor Karen Stewart, Lakewood Mayor Steve Burkholder, and University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center Chancellor Jay Gershen, DDS, PhD.
WHEN: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28
WHERE: On the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center campus at Ninth and Colorado, on the quadrangle next to the CU School of Nursing and behind the bookstore.
VISUALS: Dozens of children and adults from all walks of life will walk around the quadrangle in a sign of unity and commitment to moving more, eating less and leading healthier lifestyles. There will be speakers and booths set up by various sponsors, including Pepsico, Kaiser Permanente, YMCA, Boot Camp of the Rockies, 24 Hour Fitness, the Arthritis Foundation, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the UCDHSC Center for Human Nutrition, Wendy's, and Tyson Foods Inc.'s Operation Frontline.
