Hospital Launches New Foundation
AURORA (Oct. 23, 2006) – The University of Colorado Hospital Authority Board of Directors has appointed Peter H. Coors as chairman of the board for the new University of Colorado Hospital Foundation.
The University of Colorado Hospital Foundation itself will be the sole fundraising arm of the hospital, and will implement and administer all fundraising activities in support of the programs, mission and great, pioneering work of the University of Colorado Hospital.
“As chair of the foundation board, Pete Coors will help move us along a path toward greater success,” said Bruce Schroffel, University of Colorado Hospital president and CEO, who also will serve on the foundation board. “He shares our vision for quality and excellence and is deeply committed to this hospital. We are fortunate and gratified that he has agreed to lead this effort.”
Coors will continue to serve as a member of the University of Colorado Hospital Authority Board of Directors.
Since beginning its move to the Fitzsimons campus, the hospital has received generous gifts for its inpatient and outpatient clinical facilities from donors such as The Anschutz Foundation, Mike and Suzy Leprino, the Mike Leprino Family Foundation, the Melvin and Elaine Wolf Foundation, the Kenneth Kendal King Foundation and the Daniels Fund.
“University of Colorado Hospital has received some very significant gifts from a relatively small number of donors. Now, we need to look to the type of investments that will insure the hospital continues as a truly world class medical center,” Schroffel said. “The new foundation will let us be more focused and dynamic in our fundraising, and allow us to involve a broader scope of volunteers.”
In accepting his new role, Coors said: “I am honored to serve as the chair of University of Colorado Hospital’s new foundation. We are at a point in the hospital’s history where we must set the stage for discussion of this hospital’s growing need for private support. As I travel throughout the state and region, talking with people about my involvement with the University of Colorado Hospital, it is clear that it is a leader in health care and that there is broad interest in making it even stronger in serving our community."
Coors is chairman of Coors Brewing Co. and vice chairman of Molson-Coors Brewing Co. He serves on the corporate board of directors for U.S. Bancorp, Inc. and Energy Corporation of America. He is president and a trustee of the Adolph Coors Foundation and the Castle Rock Foundation. He has also served as a trustee and member of the executive board of the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the National Western Stock Show Association executive committee and a member of Colorado Uplift. Coors is a member of the International Chapter of Young Presidents Organization and the University of Denver Art Museum Foundation.
Over the past several months, Coors has been actively recruiting Board members for the new group, which will have its first meeting this month. Joining Coors on the Board are: Ed Haselden (Haselden Construction), Christian Anschutz (Western Development Group), Steven Farber (Brownstein, Hyatt, & Farber PC), Sharon Magness Blake (Epicurean Catering), Charlie Biederman (Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc), and Bruce Schroffel (University of Colorado Hospital).
