Learn about the newest advances is diagnosing, treating and surviving common cancers

AURORA, Colo. (Aug. 27, 2007) – Cancer experts from the University of Colorado Cancer Center will present information about the newest advances in diagnosing, treating and surviving common cancers at the first-ever Colorado Cancer Day, Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

UCCC cancer doctors and researchers will talk about the early diagnosis, surgery and drug-based treatment advances in breast, lung, colorectal and prostate cancers in four separate, 75-minute sessions. The day will wrap up with a session about the roles of complementary care and diet in cancer treatment, as well as information about the pros and cons of participating in clinical trials of new anti-cancer agents. People are welcome to attend a single session or all five. A parallel all-day meeting, tailored specifically to primary care physicians and other key medical specialists who may encounter cancer in their day-to-day practices, will also run at the same time.

“By gathering our experts in one place, on one day, we hope to create an informative, effective venue to talk about the best possible ways of dealing with cancer, the No. 1 killer of adults in the United States,” said Ross Camidge, MD, PhD, course director of the Colorado Cancer Day and assistant professor of medicine/oncology at the University of Colorado Cancer Center.
