New Spring Semester Brings Together All Health Sciences Students of the University of Colorado Denver on the Anschutz Medical Campus
312 School of Medicine students begin their first semester on new campus on Jan. 2

AURORA, Colo. (Dec. 31, 2007) - This January, after years of planning a burgeoning new life sciences campus, all health science students of the University of Colorado Denver will once again attend classes on the same campus when the January 2008 semester begins. This coming together of students in the new education buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo., occurs after years of planning the new campus to include: the University of Colorado Hospital and The Children's Hospital and their clinics; the UC Denver School of Medicine which includes medical students, doctor of physical therapy students and child health associate/physician assistant students; along with the Schools of Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental Medicine and graduate school; and research in medicine and biosciences.

WHAT: UC Denver School of Medicine first and second year medical students begin their first semester in the new education buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The two classes of 156 students each will attend their first lectures of the semester and begin to explore the new education zone on campus which was designed to encourage interaction and interdisciplinary discussions among the students of the various health sciences schools in areas designated as "Learning Communities". All the health sciences programs will start their semesters at various times in January, marking the first time all students will be on the new campus.

WHEN: Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, 9:30 a.m.

WHERE: Anschutz Medical Campus, Education 2 North, lecture halls, and the outdoor education quad area, 13120 East 19th Ave., Aurora, Colo.

WHO:

  • School of Medicine first year and second year medical students (312 students total)
  • Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, UC Denver, Marguerite Childs: AVC Childs will be available to elaborate on the design of the education zone to encourage interprofessional interaction and discussion on the new campus.

VISUALS:

To access the Georgetown Lot: Enter the campus on Montview Blvd. (on the north side of campus). Enter on Montview from Peoria St. on the west side of campus, or Fitzsimons Pkwy. on the east. From Montview Blvd., turn south on Uvalda Ct. The lot is the last lot on the left, located just north of the education buildings.
To access the Julesburg Lot: Enter the campus from Fitzsimons Pkwy. on the east and turn west on 17th Place. The lot will be at the intersection of Victor and 17th.
