New features strengthens University of Colorado Denver emergency notification to students, faculty and staff

Denver (Nov. 1, 2007) - Communication in time of emergency helps keep people safe and provides calm. Students, faculty and staff at the University of Colorado Denver now can better connect with the University's emergency notification thanks to new features provided by the 3n Instacom Campus Alert System. All UC Denver locations including the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora and the downtown campus in Denver, will have the expanded emergency notification features beginning today. The 3n system will allow fast communications with a variety of notification devices such as phones, email, text messages, instant messaging, pager, fax and BlackBerry devices on or off campus, greatly expanding the schools capability for delivering quick and reliable crisis notification to the entire campus community or to targeted campus audiences.

A committee reviewed a number of notification systems and determined that the capabilities of 3n's InstaCom Campus Alert mass notification system best meets the combined emergency notification needs of four institutions that share classroom and building space. These include Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, UC Denver Downtown Campus and Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. UC Denver will continue to use email, voice mail, Internet postings and public address systems to inform students, staff and faculty in emergencies.

Beginning today, students, faculty and staff will be able to sign up for several 3n-enabled emergency notification options. Notification of any threats to safety will happen immediately after sign up.

The University of Colorado Denver is one of three universities in the University of Colorado system. Located in Denver on the Downtown Campus and at Ninth & Colorado Blvd., and on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo., University of Colorado Denver is Colorado's premier research university offering more than 100 degrees and programs in 12 schools and colleges and serving more than 28,000 students in Metro Denver and online.
