College of American Pathologists names University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center Faculty Member Pathologist of the Year
AURORA, Colo. (Oct 22, 2007) - University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center pathologist, Ronald B. Lepoff, MD, FCAP, was named the 2007 Pathologist of the Year at a ceremony held on Sept. 29, 2007, in Chicago at CAP '07 - The Pathologist' Meeting.
Dr. Lepoff received the 2007 CAP Pathologist of the Year Award, the College's highest honor, in recognition for his outstanding leadership in the field of pathology. During his leadership of the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, Dr. Lepoff contributed greatly to the advancement of patient care and the pathology profession during a period of dramatic change.
"I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this award from the College of American Pathologists," said Dr. Lepoff, a professor of Pathology and Medicine, vice-chair of Pathology and head of the section of Clinical Pathology, as well as director of Clinical Laboratories at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. "It is a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues and by an organization dedicated to quality and excellence.
As an active member of the College for more than 35 years, Dr. Lepoff has held many leadership positions, including CAP secretary-treasurer from 2005-2006. In addition to serving as a Board member and state, regional and special commissioner for the Laboratory Accreditation Program, he also has served as chair of the College's Commission on Laboratory Accreditation. Dr. Lepoff also has been a member of numerous CAP committees and councils, including the Council on Scientific Affairs and the Council on Government and Professional Affairs.
In addition to his dedication to the CAP, Dr. Lepoff has served as a member of many professional societies, including the American Medical Association; the Colorado Association for Continuing Medical Laboratory Education, where he served on the Board of Directors; the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists; the Denver Medical Society; and the Colorado Medical Society. He also served as president, vice-president, and a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Physician Health Program.
Dr. Lepoff has spent much of his professional career in Colorado. He served as a laboratory director at Denver General Hospital. He also has held many leadership positions at UCDHSC, and as a member and president of the Medical Board and chair of the Risk Management and Patient Safety Committee of the University of Colorado Hospital. He has received many teaching awards from the medical students and a leadership award from the medical staff.
Dr. Lepoff received his medical degree from University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, N.Y. He completed his internship in pediatrics at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Lepoff went on to complete his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at UCDHSC in Denver.
