Ricardo Gonzalez, MDAURORA, Colo. (July 3, 2008) – According to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), every 14 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Ricardo Gonzalez, MD, assistant professor in the division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, was recently honored by PanCAN for his efforts in combating pancreatic cancer and his continued involvement with the organization. The honor was presented to Gonzalez during the organization’s annual gala on June 21 in Golden, Colo.

“It's truly an honor to be recognized by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network,” said Gonzalez. “The organization tirelessly supports families and patients with this disease through raising awareness and generates millions each year toward funding new research in pancreatic cancer.”

“Gonzalez earned his medical degree at the University of South Florida College of Medicine and subsequently completed a residency at the UC Denver School of Medicine. He then completed two fellowships at the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center in Surgical Oncology and Critical Care.

The organization has been responsible for significantly increasing the federal funds available for pancreatic cancer researchers nationwide. PanCAN’s volunteer-based grassroots advocacy network, TeamHOPE, has grown to over 80 affiliates nationwide that work to promote public awareness and raise funds for research, advocacy and patient support services.
