UC Denver College of Nursing Announces New Associate Dean for Research and Extramural Affairs
AURORA, Colo. (June 30, 2008) – Karen H. Sousa, RN, PhD, was recently announced as the University of Colorado Denver College of Nursing’s new associate dean for research and extramural affairs. She begins in this position on July 1, 2008, and will be in the college’s Informatics, Health Systems and Leadership division. Dr. Sousa was previously with Arizona State University.
“This is a very exciting time in the history of UC Denver’s College of Nursing with the new campus and all the new opportunities and relationships that it brings,” said Sousa. “I look forward to being part of this fabulous team that honors the connection between research and practice. We will continue to build on the strong reputation for theory-based research.”
The UC Denver College of Nursing former Associate Dean for Research and Extramural Affairs was Lauren Clark, RN, PhD, FAAN. Gwen Van Servellen, RN, PhD, FAAN, served as the interim associate dean.
The UC Denver College of Nursing offers some of the highest ranked programs in the country -- from bachelor's through doctoral degrees and post-graduate certificate programs. The college offers several specialties through its Master’s program and the only PhD program in clinical research in Colorado. It also is the birthplace of nurse practitioner education and the caring movement, and was one of the first schools in the country to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice program. This year, U.S. News & World Report ranked UC Denver College of Nursing’s nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist programs among the top ten in the country.
