Paul Teske Appointed Dean of University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs
DENVER (June 9, 2008) - University of Colorado Denver Chancellor M. Roy Wilson, MD, announced today the appointment of Paul Teske, PhD, as dean for the School of Public Affairs. Teske succeeds Kathleen Beatty who returns to the school's faculty after a long and distinguished career as dean.
Dr. Teske is currently a member of the school's faculty as well as director of the Center for Education Policy Analysis, the director of the Center on Reinventing Public Education Denver, director of the school's PhD program, and a co-principle investigator on the university's National Science Foundation IGERT grant. Before coming to the University of Colorado Denver in 2003, Dr. Teske served as a professor of political science at SUNY Stony Brook, an affiliated research fellow at Columbia University Business School Institute for Tele-Information and a visiting professor of politics and public affairs at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.
He brings to the appointment a proven track record of excellence in teaching, research and service. He is nationally recognized in his own area of focus on K-12 education policy study and has been involved in various program initiatives within the school including mentoring for junior faculty and improvements to the doctorate program. Dr. Teske's public policy research has centered on education policy, regulatory policy, urban policy, and economic development policy. He is the author of 8 books, 50 articles and 20 book chapters. His most recent book, Pay for Performance Teacher Compensation: An Inside Story of Denver's ProComp Plan (with Phil Gorning and Brad Jupp) analyzes the entrepreneurial policy development of the nation's leading market-based teacher pay plan. Dr. Teske also holds several honors including: the 2005 Distinguished Research Award from National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration/American Society for Public Affairs (NASPAA/ASPA) and the 2005 Excellence in Research and Creative Activities Award from UC Denver.
UC Denver's School of Public Affairs is the only school of public affairs in the Rocky Mountain West. Faculty and students apply research in a variety of areas including P-20 education, emergency management, homeland security, domestic violence and criminal justice.
