Long-Term Safety and Efficacy of Low Carbohydrate Diets

The Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Denver is one of three leading institutions involved in this groundbreaking multi-site trial. In conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania and Washington University, we will be studying the effects of a low carbohydrate diet on weight and body composition, metabolic and organ function, and exercise endurance

Principal Investigators:
James O. Hill, PhD
Holly Wyatt, MD

Study Coordinator
Carrie Brill

Purpose:
Despite its widespread use, low carbohydrate diets consistent with the Atkins' diet have never been evaluated in a large randomized controlled trial. Data from randomized controlled trials such as this one is necessary to help physicians, patients and the broader health care community make informed decisions about the safety and efficacy of this kind of program.
