The University of Colorado Health Science Center is one of eight leading centers involved in the medical management of overweight and obese persons in the United States. These nationally recognized centers aim to disseminate knowledge about obesity treatment to the medical community. The center offers interactive workshops designed to help educate healthcare professionals to improve their skills in assessment, evaluation, treatment and management of obese or overweight patients.

Purpose or description:
In response to the need to address obesity as a major threat to public health, the Centers for Obesity Research and Education strive to:
- Provide timely, relevant education and training about obesity and its management to Primary Care Physicians and other Health Care Professionals in our communities.
- Bring expertise to bear as an educational and informational resource in the field of obesity, nationally and in the individual communities we serve.
- Raise the public awareness about the problem of obesity and the risk of excess weight including options for prevention and management, and the value of weight management of fostering health improvement.
