Nanette F. Santoro, M.D., Professor and Chair. Dr. Santoro was appoited Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in September 2009. She received her medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, New York, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, New York, followed by a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Following her fellowship she accepted a facutly position at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. She accepted an appointment in 1998 at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, rising to the rank of Professor and Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Santoro’s major research interests include the reproductive endocrinology of premature, peri-, and postmenopause, infertility, and the physiology of gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion. She has been involved with numerous industry- and government-supported clinical trials, including the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), the Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS), and the Reproductive Physiology of Ovarian Failure, has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, books, book chapters, and abstracts, and is a co-editor of the Textbook of Perimenopausal Gynecology. Dr. Santoro serves on the editorial board of Fertility and Sterility, and Menopause: The Journal of The North American Menopause Society and is an ad hoc reviewer for the JSGI, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, American Journal of Ob/Gyn, Climacteric, and numerous other journals.
Ruben Alvero, M.D., Associate Professor, Residency Program Director. Dr. Alvero earned his M.D. degree from F. Edward
Hebert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland in 1986. He completed residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1990 and completed a Fellowship
in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the NIH in 1995. Dr. Alvero was Division
Director of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center prior to
coming to the Health Sciences Center in 2002. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Reproductive
Endocrinology and Infertility. His clinical interests include assisted
reproductive technologies, endometriosis, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Jaime Arruda, M.D.,
Sr. Instructor. Dr. Arruda earned
her M.D.from Johns Hopkins
University School of Medicine in 2002.
She completed her residency at the University of Colorado Denver
in June of 2006 and joined the faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the University of Colorado Denver in July 2006. She is
Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Arruda's clinical
interests are in all aspects of general obstetrics and gynecology.
Linda A. Barbour, M.D., MSPH,
Associate
Professor. Dr. Barbour earned her M.D. from the University of Colorado
School of M edicine in 1984. She completed her residency training and her Public
Health Fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr.
Barbour’s primary appointment is with the Department of Medicine. She has been
a faculty member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
University of Colorado Denver since April 1991. Dr. Barbour is
Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In June 2002, she
completed a fellowship in Endocrinology with an emphasis on women’s
health and endocrinologic disorders during pregnancy. Clinical and research
interests are in medical disorders during pregnancy, including preconception
counseling of women with chronic medical disorders, thromboembolism, diabetes,
and thyroid disease in pregnancy.
Kian
Behbakht, M.D., Associate Professor. Dr. Behbakht completed his residency at
Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago in 1993, and completed
a research fellowship at the same institution in 1994.
Dr. Behbakht completed his fellowship training in gynecologic oncology at
the University of Pennsylvania in 1997. Follow ing
his training he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center where
he practiced until coming to the University of Colorado Denver
in 2002. Dr. Behbakht is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and
Subspecialty Certified in Gynecologic Oncology. He has research interests in the pathogenesis of ovarian
cancer and the epidemiology of cervical cancer.
His clinical interests are endoscopic and fertility preserving procedures
in gynecologic cancer.
Gail Best, M.D., Sr. Instructor. Dr. Best earned her MD from Michigan State University in 1994 and completed her residency at Albany Medical College in New York in 1998. Dr. Best completed fellowhsip training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Rochester, New York, in 2001. Following her fellowship training, Dr. Best held faculty positions at the University of Rochester and at the University of Louisville, in Kentucky. She joined the faculty of the Department in 2003. Dr. Best is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Lynn Blyth, Ph.D., Assistant Clinical
Professor. Dr. Blyth earned her B.S. in Psych ology from Tufts
University in Medford, Massachusetts in 1973, and her M.S. in Clinical
Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 1979. She earned her
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 1982.
Between 1973 and 1981, she held various position in Massachusetts before coming
to Colorado. She joined the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the Health Sciences Center in 1995 with a clinical faculty
appointment. Dr. Blyth provides counseling services in the section of
Reproductive Endocrinology, and provides outreach/support services both in the
Department and in the community.
Andrew P. Bradford, Ph.D.,
Associate
Professor. Dr. Bradford earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University
of Newcastle in Tyne, U.K. and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in hormone
signaling at University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Dr. Bradford was
a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado
from 1994 to September 1998 when he became an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics
and Gynecology. His research interests include regulation of tissue specific
gene expression in response to hormonal and growth factor stimuli,
characterization of fibroblast growth factor signaling in the pituitary, and the

Susan A. Davidson, M.D., Associate Professor,
Chief, Section of Gynecologic Oncology.. Dr. Davidson earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio in 1984. Following residency training at the University of Texas, San
Antonio,
Dr. Davidson completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, in 1990. She
joined the faculty at Albert Einstein College of
Medicine, Bronx, New York. Dr. Davidson joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
University of Colorado in December, 1991. Dr. Davidson is
Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Gynecologic Oncology. Clinical and research interests are in all areas of gynecologic oncology.
Jill Davies, M.D., Associate
Professor. Dr. Davies earned her M.D. from George Washington University
School of Medicine in 1993. She completed her residency at George Washington
University
Medical Center in 1997 and completed a fellowship in
Maternal-Fetal
Medicine at the University of Colorado in 2000. She joined the Department in
August 2000. Dr. Davies is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and
Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Her clinical interests include perinatal infections,
ultrasound, and medical complications of pregnancy. Her primary research
interest is in perinatal infectious disease.
Karlotta M. Davis, M.D.,M.P.H.,, Associate Professor.
Dr. Davis earned her M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1981 and attended the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland where she earned
he r M.P.H. She completed her residency at the Naval Hospital Oakland, Oakland,
CA. 1987. Dr. Davis served in the United States Navy Medical Corps. as Commander, from 1981-89, and in active reserves until 1993. Dr. Davis joined the University of Colorado Denver, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department in 1993. Dr. Davis has been board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since December 1989. Clinical interests include urogynecology and pelvic floor dysfunction.
Irina Dimitrova, M.D., Instructor-Fellow. Dr.
Dimitrova
earned her M.D. at Sofia Medical University in Sofia, Bulgaria in
1997. She interned in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago
and completed her PGY 1 year in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aurora Health Care
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She completed her residency at Oakwood Medical
Center in Dearborn, Michigan in 2005. Dr. Dimitrova joined the faculty at
the University of Colorado Denver in January 2006 as a Scholar
in the Colorado Women's Reproductive Health Research Career Development Center.
This NIH funded program provides research training to
obstetrician/gynecologists. She became a fellow in the Gynecologic Oncology program in July 2009.
Lorraine Dugoff, M.D., Associate Professor.
Clerkship Director, Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Student Clerkship. Dr. Dugoff completed her residency at Pennsylvania Hospital and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Cen ter
(UCD). She completed a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UCD in 1995 and a fellowship in Clinical
Genetics, also at
UCD, in 1996. She joined the Department in July,1996. Dr. Dugoff is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Subspecialty Certified in
Genetics and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Her clinical interests include high risk obstetrics, prenatal diagnosis, clinical genetics and first trimester ultrasound. Her primary research interest is in first trimester ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis.
Sonya
S. Erickson, M.D., Assistant
Professor.
Dr.
Erickso n earned her M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine in 1991.
She interned at the New York Hospital at Cornell Medical Center and
completed her residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia
in 1996.
Following her residency she held positions with Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the University of Iowa, and
The Permanente Medical Group in Milpitas, California before coming to the
University of Colorado.
Dr. Erickson is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Her clinical interests are in lower genital tract disorders and human
sexuality.
Heide
L. Ford, Ph.D., Associate Professor. Dr. Ford completed her
Ph.D. in
biochemistry at the University of Rochester in 1995. Her postdoctoral
training was at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School
where she worked on cell cycle control and breast cancer. In March of 2001 she joined the faculty at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Ford's research interests are in the
role of developmental genes, in particular those of the homeobox family, in cell

Henry Galan, M.D., Associate Professor, Director,
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fel lowship Program,
Chief, Section of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.. Following his residency at Scott & White Hospital in
Temple, Texas, and a fellowship in
Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston,
Dr. Galan joined the department in July, 1996. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Subspecialty
Certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. His clinical interests include IUGR, operative vaginal delivery, ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis.
Ronald S. Gibbs, M.D., Professor and Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education SOM. Dr. Gibbs earned his MD from
the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA
in 1969. Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed at the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He was Chief,
Gynecology Service, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC
from 1974-1976. From 1976-1989, he was on the faculty of the University
of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Gibbs joined
the University of Colorado Denver, Obstetrics and
Gynecology Department as Chairman in 1989. He is Board Certified in
Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Maternal-Fetal
Medicine. His clinical interests are in obstetrics and gynecology,
infectious diseases and high-risk pregnancy. His research interests
include infectious diseases. Dr. Gibbs has been a Director and
Treasurer of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and has
served on the Residency Review Committee.
William B. Goddard, M.D., Clinical Professor. Dr. Goddard earned his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1947. His residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed at the State University of Iowa and the School of Aviation Medicine, Randolph Air Force Base in
195 2. Dr. Goddard began his medical career at the University of Iowa in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1953. He held faculty positions there until 1961 when he moved Denver and joined Denver General Hospital as Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been a member of the University of Colorado Denver Clinical Faculty since 1963. Dr. Goddard is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His major fields of interest are
urogynecology and pelvic repair surgery.
Stuart A. Gottesfeld, M.D., Clinical
Professor Dr. Gottesfeld earned his
M.D. degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1959. He
completed residency at Mount Sinai Hospital School of Medicine in New Your in
1964. He became an Assistant Clinical Professor at the HSC in 1966,
rising to the rank of Clinical Professor in 1981. He served as the Associate
Dean for Hospital Affairs for the Medical School at Rose Medical Center from
1986 to1998. Dr. Gottesfeld retired from the practice of medicine in 1998 but
has remained active in teaching of residents. He was the recipient of the Best
Teaching Award for many years and the Best Faculty Teaching Award is now named
in his honor.
John C. Hobbins, M.D., Professor. Following
his residency at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, Dr. Hobbins joined the faculty at Yale University School of Medicine in 1970.
He stayed at Yale for 22 year s where he attained the rank of Professor and was
the Acting Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He came to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado in August, 1992.
Dr. Hobbins is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
He is widely known for his research and contributions in the use of ultrasound
in obstetrics. His clinical interests include prenatal diagnosis and all aspects of perinatal ultrasound, fetal treatment.
Patricia Huguelet, M.D., Instructor.
Dr. Hueguelet
earned her MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri, in 2004. She completed her residency at the University of Colorado in 2008. Following her residency, Dr. Huguelet joined the facutly in the Department. She is Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Twila Jackson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. Jackson
obtained her bachelors degree in 1985 from Duke University, specializing
in Molecular Biology and Genetics, and completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical
Sciences at the University of Colorado in 1997. Dr. Jackson held several
research positions at Duke University between 1985 and 1991 before becoming a
research fellow at the University of Colorado Denver in 1997.
She held fellowship positions in the Department of Pharmacology and in the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology between 1997 and 2004. Dr. Jackson
was appointed as an Instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in
2004 and became an Assistant Professor in 2008.
Michael Kelly, M.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. Kelly earned his M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY in 2000. He completed his residency at Yale University School of Medicine in 2004 and completed a three-year fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Yale University School of Medicine in 2007. Dr. Kelly joined the University of Colorado Denver, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2007. Dr. Kelly is Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Kelly's clinical interests are in minimally invasive pelvic surgery, management of ovarian cancer, including surgery and chemotherapy administration, aggressive types of uterine cancers and cervical, vaginal and vulvar dysplasia. His research interests are aggressive types (serous, clear cell, carcinosarcoma) of uterine cancers, identifying novel molecular based therapies for the treatment of ovarian cancers, development and implementation of novel minimally invasive surgical techniques in gyencology and gynecology oncology such as Robotics.
Anne M. Lynch, M.D., Assistant Professor.
Dr. Lynch received her MD
from the University College in Dublin, Ireland. She interned at Mater Hospital in Dublin, Ireland and
completed her residency in 1983. Dr. Lynch completed a
Masters of Science in Public Health at the University of Colorado Denver in 1998. She worked as a Research Analyst and an
Epidemiologist before joining the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in
2002. Her interest is in
perinatal epidemiology. Dr. Lynch recently completed studies on pregnancy
outcomes among women with multiple gestations. Her focus now is to investigate
the contribution of complement activation to pregnancy loss and other adverse
pregnancy outcomes.
Joan Manheimer, Ph.D., Assistant Clinical
Professor. Dr. Manheimer earned her B.A. from Wellesley College in
1968 and her Ph.D. in
English and American Literature from Brandeis University
in 1974. She completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The City
University of New York in 1992. Dr. Manheimer held various psychology
positions in New York before moving to Colorado in 1992. She is an Adjunct
Assistant Professor at the University of Denver, Graduate School of Professional
Psychology and maintains a private practice. Dr. Manheimer joined the
faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a clinical faculty
member in 1999. She screens and assists patients undergoing infertility
treatment at the Reproductive Medicine Center, and counsels patients including
sperm and oocyte donors and patients with congenital reproductive
anomalies.
James
L. McManaman, Ph.D.,
Professor, Acting Chief, Basic Reproductive Sciences . Dr. McManaman received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the
University of Colorado in 1978. He
completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,
Texas in 1982. Dr. McManaman was a
faculty member at Baylor College before coming to Colorado in 1992.
He was a faculty member in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at
the Health Sciences Center before joining the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology. His research focuses on
two general areas, the regulation of cytoplasmic lipid droplet formation and
secretion by mammary epithelial cells and the role of oxygen radical generating
enzymes in breast cancer.

Patricia McShane, M.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. McShane earned her M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1977. She completed her residency at Boston Hospital for Women in 1981 and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 1983. Dr. McShane was a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School from 1982 until 1988. She was the Director of the In-Vitro Fertililization Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1984-1988 and Medical Director of Reproductive Sciences Center in Lexington, MA from 1988-2006. She was a member of the faculty at UMass Medical Center 2003-2006. In 2007 she joined the faculty of the University of Colorado Denver, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. McShane is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Mchael Muench, M.D., Associate Professor. Dr. Muench earned his M.D. from the Ross University School of Medicine, Roseau, Dominica, BWI, in 1995. He completed his residency at the Medical Center of Delaware in 1999 and a Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Maryland in 2003. Following his fellowship, Dr. Muench joined the faculty at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in New Jersey. He joined the faculty of the University of Colorado Denver in 2008. Dr. Muench is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He primary practice is in Colorado Springs.
Shona Murray, M.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. Murray received her M.D. from Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario in 1988, when she was awarded the Mylkes Medal for outstanding performance in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her residency at Queen’s University in 1993 and a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Kentucky in 1995. After completing her Fellowship, Dr Murray was a faculty member at the University of Kentucky where she served as both director of the assisted reproductive medicine program and as head of the division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She has published papers on reproductive hormones, and various aspects of infertility and is very active in resident and medical student education. Dr. Murray is Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Margaret
Neville, Ph.D., Professor Dr. Neville earned her Ph.D. in Medical
Physiology in 1962 from the University of Pennsylvania. She served in the
Peace Cops from 1962 - 1964. Upon her return, she took a position as
a Research Associate with the Department of Molecular Biology at Pennsylvania
Hospital. Dr. Neville joined the Department of Physiology and Biophysics
at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1970. She has served
as Acting Chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics on two
occasions. Dr. Neville holds appointments as Professor in both the
Department of Physiology and Biophysics and the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology. She was appointed Chief of the Basic Reproductive Sciences
Section in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2002. Her
research interests include the control of biological function at the cellular
level, epithelial transport and secretion, membrane transport, and cellular
mechanisms of milk secretion and its regulation. [Click on

William D. Schlaff, M.D., Professor, Chief,
Section of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.. Dr.
Schlaff earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan in 1977. Following residency at University of Michigan and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins,
he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Oregon Primate Research Cen ter in 1985
and joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins. He came to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado in
November 1989. Dr. Schlaff is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Reproductive
Endocrinology and Infertility. Clinical interests include evaluation and treatment of infertility problems, abnormal bleeding, congenital anomalies and
endometriosis. He has a research interest in infertility, contraceptive alternatives, endoscopic surgery, management of abnormal bleeding,
and uterine fibroids.
Stephen Scott, M.D.,F.A.C.O.G, Assiociate Professor. Dr. Scott earned his M.D. at the University of Missouri at Kansas City
Schoo l of Medicine in 1992. Following residency at the University of Illinois in 1996, Dr. Scott was a Clinical Instructor at the Denver Health Medical Center,
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado
Health Sciences Center in July 1997.
He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His clinical interests
include pediatric and adolescent gynecology.
John C. Slocumb, M.D., S.M.H., F.A.C.O.G., Emeritas Professor, Clinical
Professor. Dr. Slocumb earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, NY, in 1964, as well as a Master of Science in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health in 1967. He completed his residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1969. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester
Sc hool of Medicine, 1971-1972, and Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Program at the Rochester Neighborhood Health Center, Rochester, New York, 1971-1972. He was a Professor at the University of New Mexico from 1982-1989. Dr. Slocumb has been a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center since 1990 and has held various leadership positions in the Department and School. Dr. Slocumb has been certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since November 1972. His clinical interest is in the field of pelvic pain.
Monique Spillman, M.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. Spillman earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical School in 1999. She completed her residency at Brigham and Women's
Hospital in 2003 and a three-year fellowship in gynecology oncology in 2006 at
Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Spillman joined the faculty at the
University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, in 2006. She is a Scholar in the Colorado Women's Reproductive
Health Research Career Development Center, an NIH funded program which provides research training to

Stephanie B. Teal, M.D., M.P.H. Associate Professor. Dr. Teal earned her M.D. in 1994 at the
University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and her M.P.H. at
Columbia University in New York. She completed her residency at the
University of California, San Diego, in 1998. Dr. Teal joined the faculty
at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1998, serving until
2001, when she left to pursue a fellowship in Family Planning Clinical Care and
Research at Columbia University. Following the completion of her
fellowship, Dr. Teal returned to the faculty at the University of Colorado
Health Sciences Center in 2003. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and
Gynecology. Her clinical and research interests are in contraception and
family planning.
L. Chesney Thompson, M.D., Associate Professor, Vice-Chair Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chief, Section of General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Practice Director,
General Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Thompson earned his
M.D. at Cornell University Medical College, New York, New York in 1990. He completed his residency at University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, June 1994, and subsequently joined the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Obstetrics and
Gynecology Department. Dr. Thompson was board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology November, 1996. Clinical interests include abnormal bleeding and
Pap smears.
Kristina M. Tocce, M.D. , Assistant Professor. Dr. Tocce
earned her M.D. at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York in 2001 and
completed her residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2005. She served
on the faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor from
July 2005 until she joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in June 2006. Dr. Tocce is
Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her clinical interests are in
all aspects of family planning..
Shunping Wang, Ph.D., HCLD (ABB) , Assistant Professor, Director IVF and Andrology Laboratory. Dr. Wang received his bachelor degree from Taipei Medical College in Taiwan and master degree from Harvard University. Subsequently, he received his doctoral degree in Reproductive Biology from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Wang completed his training at Boston IVF, and has extensive experience working with mammalian oocytes and embryos.
Dr. Wang is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of University of Colorado Denver, and serves as the Director of IVF and Andrology Laboratories. He is certified as High Complexity Laboratory Directory (HCLD) by American Board of Bioanalysts (ABB). Dr. Wang is a member of American Society of Reproductive Medicine and American Association of Bioanalysts.
Marsha E. Wheeler, M.D., Associate Professor. Dr. Wheeler completed her residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1983. She was Chief Resident in 1982-1983. Dr. Wheeler completed a Genetics Fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1987. She is
Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Genetics. Dr. Wheeler's clinical and research interests are in obstetrics and gynecology and genetics.
Virginia D. Winn, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant
Professor. Dr. Winn earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1994 and
her M.D. in 1996 from the University of Rochester. She completed her
residency at the University of California, San Francisco, in 2000. After
completing a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship in 2003 from the University of
California, San Francisco, she joined the faculty of UCSF as an
Assistant/Adjunct Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Winn joined the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center faculty in the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in August 2006. She is Board
Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Board Eligible in Maternal-Fetal Medicine..

J. Christopher Carey, M.D., Professor and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Denver Health Medical
Center. Dr. Carey earned his M.D. at Baylor College of Medicine in
Houston, Texas in 1978. He completed his residency at Oklahoma University
Health Sciences Center in 1982. Following residency he completed a
two-year post graduate training course in Sex Therapy at The Menninger Institute
in Topeka, Kansas. Dr. Carey held various faculty positions in Obstetrics
and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma between 1982 and 1997, rising to
the rank of Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department. He also served
as the Residency Program Director. In 1997, he joined the faculty of
Pennsylvania State College of Medicine as Professor and Vice Chairman of the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2001, he accepted the position
of Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix,
Arizona. In 2005, Dr. Carey joined the faculty at Denver Health Medical
Center as Professor and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Carey
is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and by the
American Board of Sexology.
Meredith Alston, M.D., Instructor. Dr. Alston earned her M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta in 2003. She completed her residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2007. Following her residency, Dr. Alston joined the faculty at Denver Health Medical Center. She is Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Antonino Barbera, M.D., Instructor. Dr. Barbera earned his M.D. from Medical School University of Messina, Italy, in 1986. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Messina, Italy, in 1990 and a Fellowship in Materal Fetal Medicine at ISBM H.S. Paolo Milan, Italy in 1993. Dr. Barbera held a faculty appointment at ISBM H.S. in Milan, Italy from 1990 - 1998 and was Vice Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ospedale Generale Provinciale in Tricase, LE, Italy from 1998-2002. He joined the faculty of the Department in 2003 and in 2004 began a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado. Following his residency, Dr. Barbera joined the faculty at Denver Health Medical Center. He is Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
William W. Brown, M.D., Assistant
Professor. Dr. Brown earned his MD from the University of California, Los
Angeles in 1977. He completed his residency at Maricopa County General Hospital
in 1981. Dr. Brown joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in
December 2000. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His interests
include obstetrics and gynecology, ultrasound, operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, as well as
the political and legislative aspects of healthcare.
Andrew Catron, M.D., Instructor. Dr. Catron earned his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1986. He was a resident in Family Medicine there for two years and an emergency room physician at Bethany General Hospital in Oklahoma from 1987-1992. Dr. Catron then entered the residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed that program in 1992. Dr. Catron was in private practice in Seattle Washington until 1993 when he moved to Colorado Springs. There he was in private practice and also served as the Medical Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Colorado Springs Community Health Center and as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penrose-St. Francis Medical System. Dr. Catron joined the faculty at Denver Health Medical Center in January 2007. Dr. Catron is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
J. Eric Christman, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor, Dr. Christman earned his M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine.. Following residency training at the
the United States Air Force Medical Center at Kessler AFB, Mississippi,
Dr. Christman entered private practice. He completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at
Stanford University in 1986 and subsequently became the Chief of Gynecologic
Oncology at David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis AFB in California.
In 1992 he became Professor at the University of the Health Sciences in
Bethesda, Maryland. He served as Director, Women's Cancer Center, the
Co-Director of the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, and Acting Chairman of the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, all at Morristown Memorial Hospital in
New Jersey. Dr. Christman joined the faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the University of Colorado in January 2001. He currently provides clinical
care at Denver Health Medical
Center. Dr. Christman is
Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Subspecialty Certified in Gynecologic Oncology. Clinical interests are in all areas of gynecologic oncology.
Gretchen Heinrichs, M.D, Instructor. Dr. Heinrichs
earned her M.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2002
and completed her residency there is 2006. She joined the faculty in
Obstetrics and Gynecology at Denver Health Medical Center in August 2006.

Jennifer Hyer, M.D., Instructor. Dr. Hyer earned her M.D. from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in 2003. She completed her residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2007. Following her residency, Dr. Hyer joined the faculty at Denver Health Medical Center. Dr. Hyer is Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Mono R. Krull, M.D., Instructor. Dr. Krull earned her M.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
in 2001 and completed her residency at the University of Chicago in 2005.
Dr. Krull joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Denver Health
Medical Center in July 2005. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and
Gynecology.
Kirsten J. Lund, M.D., Associate Professor. Dr. Lund earned h er
medical degree at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in
1992. Following her residency at the University of Colorado, Health
Sciences Center, she joined the faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology in June, 1996. Dr. Lund is Board Certified in Obstetrics and
Gynecology. Her clinical interest is in the area of ultrasound.
Lizbeth McCarthy, M.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. McCarthy earned her M.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center in 1997. She completed her residency there in 2001, and completed a
two-year fellowship in Clinical Genetics in 2003. Dr. McCarthy joined the
Denver Health Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a staff
physician in October 2001. In January 2006, she was appointed to the
faculty as an Assistant Professor. Dr. McCarthy is Board Certified in
Obstetrics and Gynecology and Clinical Genetics.
Pedro Miranda-Seijo, M.D., Instructor. Dr.
Miranda-Seijo completed his MD at the Universidad de Santiago in Spain in 1983.
He interned and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beth
Israel Medical Center in New York in 1993. He worked in private
practice in Florida and Texas before joining Denver Health in 2002. His
clinical interests are hypertension in pregnancy, cervical and vulvar disease,
and menopause. Research interests include hormone replacement and
menopausal health, cervical dysplasia, and obesity.
Norma Stiglich, M.D., Assistant Professor. Dr. Stiglich earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch is Galveston in 1982. She completed her residency there in 1987. She was a member of the faculty at the University of Texas Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1987-1992 and an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Family Medicine from 1989-1992. She served as Medical Director of the Regional Perinatal Program at the University of Texas from 1990-1992. In 1992, Dr. Stiglich entered private practice in Fort Collins and Brighton, Colorado. She joined the faculty at Denver Health Medical Center in January 2007. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist through the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.
Kathryn A. Witzeman,M.D. Instructor.
Dr. Witzeman completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
University of North Carolina in 2004. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Denver Health Medical
Center in 2004 following the completion of her residency. Dr. Wirzeman's
clinical and research interests are in obstetrics and gynecology and
contraception.
Rose Medical Center Faculty
Steven Holt, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor. Dr. Holt earned his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1976. He completed his residency in 1980 at Blodgett and St. Mary’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Following his residency he was a clinical faculty member at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine until 2001. Dr. Holt moved to Colorado and was on staff at Boulder Community Hospital from 2001 – 2007 where he served on various committees. During this time, he was the Interim Medical Director at the People’s Clinic (2004-2005) and the Prenatal Director for the People’s Clinic and Boulder Community Hospital (2001-2007). Dr. Holt became the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rose Medical Center in June 2007. Dr. Holt is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
