Colorado Perinatal Institute

Clinical Preceptorship

in

Perinatal

Ultrasonography

The Colorado Perinatal Institute, in collaboration with the Prenatal Diagnosis and Genetics Center at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado is offering a Clinical Preceptorship in Perinatal Ultrasonography. This course provides a flexible, hands-on, and self-directed learning experience.

This three-day course will be offered to only one or two clinical practitioners at a time. This course is not intended for casual or new users of ultrasound, but we hope to provide current users of diagnostic ultrasound, including physicians, sonographers, nurses, and physician’s assistants, with supervised instruction in both standard and new techniques. The course may serve as an excellent review for the practicing sonographer or physician who is performing a limited number of obstetric ultrasound procedures. This course is intended to provide a hands-on tutorial to compliment didactic coursework obtained at our Center.

The strength of this program is its individualized instruction and flexibility to meet the specific needs of course participants.

Objectives

At the completion, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal anatomy of the fetus and female pelvis
  • Describe the capabilities and limitations of ultrasound in obstetrics
  • Identify pathologies of the fetus, uterus, ovaries, placenta, and amniotic fluid
  • Better understand the functionality of the ultrasound imaging system
  • Demonstrate improved basic or advanced scanning skills

Program

A limited number of didactic presentations will be provided as a compliment to clinical instruction. These may include:
