About the Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was founded in 1949 at the University of Colorado Denver.  Departmental faculty provide a full-spectrum of clinical care for women of all ages, participate in research, and provide education to students and residents. 

The Department is dedicated to:

• Serving the women of Colorado and the surrounding states
• Excelling in the education of medical students and residents
• Delivering comprehensive patient care
• Participating in research into areas of women's health

Chairman   -  Ronald S. Gibbs, M.D.

Professor and Chairman of the Department since 1989.  Dr. Gibbs earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA in 1969. Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He was Chief, Gynecology Service, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC from 1974-1976. From 1976-1989, he was on the faculty of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Gibbs joined the University of Colorado Denver, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department as Chairman in 1989. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and subspecialty certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. His clinical interests are in obstetrics and gynecology, infectious diseases and high-risk pregnancy. His research interests include infectious diseases.
