About the Department
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was founded in 1949 at
the University of Colorado Denver. Departmental faculty
provide a full-spectrum of clinical care for women of all ages,
participate in research, and provide education to students and
residents.
The Department is dedicated to:
- Serving the women of Colorado and the surrounding states
- Excelling in the education of medical students and residents
- Delivering comprehensive patient care
- Participating in research into areas of women's health
Chair - Nanette F. Santoro, M.D.
Dr. Santoro was appointed Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in September 2009. She received her medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, New York, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, New York, followed by a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Following her fellowship she accepted a facutly position at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. She accepted an appointment in 1998 at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, rising to the rank of Professor and Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Santoro’s major research interests include the reproductive endocrinology of premature, peri-, and postmenopause, infertility, and the physiology of gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion. She has been involved with numerous industry- and government-supported clinical trials, including the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), the Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS), and the Reproductive Physiology of Ovarian Failure, has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, books, book chapters, and abstracts, and is a co-editor of the Textbook of Perimenopausal Gynecology. Dr. Santoro serves on the editorial board of Fertility and Sterility, and Menopause: The Journal of The North American Menopause Society and is an ad hoc reviewer for the JSGI, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, American Journal of Ob/Gyn, Climacteric, and numerous other journals.
