Maternal-Fetal Medicine FellowshipThe Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver is designed to prepare fellows for an academic career and to develop the clinical skills required serving as a perinatal consultant. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is well funded and serves as one of the centers for the NIH Women’s Reproductive Health Research grants. During the three-year training program, the fellow will spend 18 months in clinical activities (including electives) and 18 months in protected research activities. Clinical activity includes involvement with high-risk patients on the antepartum service, high-risk obstetrics clinic, and diabetes clinic, as well as extensive experience in the prenatal diagnosis center with ultrasound, genetic amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling and transfusion, and placental biopsies. There is a significant basic science and clinical collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, as well as other departments in a productive collegial environment. The program has a wide variety of basic and clinical research options with an emphasis on experimental design and data analysis which are offered to the fellow through four possible research tracts: maternal-fetal physiology, prenatal diagnosis, infectious diseases, and reproductive biology. There are large and small animal capabilities. Training in all aspects of molecular biology is available. The University of Colorado is approved for one Fellow
