Obstetrics and Gynecology
Residency Program
Hospital Sites
Residents at the University of Colorado have the opportunity to develop their skills as a physician in multiple clinical settings. Residents rotate between the University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Health, and Rose Medical Center. By rotating through the only academic institution as well as a regional referral site, the county hospital and a private hospital, residents are exposed to a wide variety of clinical situations and diverse patient populations.
University of Colorado Hospital/Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion
University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) is the primary teaching hospital of the residency program and of the University of Colorado School of Medicine. It is located on the University of Colorado Denver Campus. Since its founding in 1921, UCH has become the region’s leading tertiary care and referral center. At UCH, there is a full complement of both routine and tertiary care obstetrics and gynecologic programs, including high risk obstetrical/neonatal ICU, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and urogynecology. The inpatient population consists of approximately 75% public/25% private on the Obstetrics service and approximately 67% public/33% private on the Gynecology services.
In June 2007, the University of Colorado Hospital moved into the new Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion (AIP) on the Fitzsimmons campus. The Fitzsimmons campus is home to a variety of facilities that represent the health care model of the future. All Obstetrics, Gynecologic and Neonatal services moved out to the AIP which was designed from the ground up to provide family-centered patient care.

Denver Health Medical
Center (DHMC)
DHMC, the city-county
hospital for Denver, is Colorado’s primary “safety net” institution,
providing level one care for all residents in Denver regardless of ability
to pay. Denver Health cares for 35 percent of Denver’s
children and one in
four Denver residents. DHMC faculty have full time appointments through
the School of Medicine, and supervise residents in the full range of
obstetric and gynecologic care including high-risk obstetrics,
reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic oncology, and
urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. DHMC opened the Pavilion
for Women and Children in August 2006. This 220,000 square foot building
adds 107 patient beds and incorporates Labor and Delivery, Ob/Gyn,
Mom/Baby, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Women’s Care Clinic, and the
inpatient Pediatric unit.
Rose Medical Center
(RMC)
Rose Medical Center
provides education and training in the care of private obstetric and
gynecologic patients. In March of 2006, RMC opened a new,
state-of-the-art birthing center. Attending physicians whose patients are
regularly involved in the teaching program have Clinical (volunteer)
faculty positions.
