DAVID AMMAR, Ph.D., is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. His research focuses on the role of ion transport in eye diseases.
Professor Ammar graduated from Harvard University in 1991 and earned a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1998. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley and was a Research Scientist in the Department of Medicine/Division of Nephrology at the University of California, San Francisco. J. BRONWYN BATEMAN, M.D., is a Professor in the
Department of Ophthalmology. Doctor Bateman is
internationally recognized as a leader in the medical
and surgical management of strabismus and pediatric
eye diseases. She also is a geneticist and has
made significant contributions in the field of ophthalmic
genetics including identification of genes involved
in pediatric cataracts. She works at both the
Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute at Fitzsimons and
The Children's Hospital in Denver. She is on the Executive Comittee of Pan American Association of Ophthalmology and just recently finished a term as President of the organization. She has a grant from the National Eye Institute on hereditary
cataracts.
Doctor Bateman received her medical degree from Columbia
University in New York and completed her residency at
the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles, California.
She completed two ophthalmology fellowships, one in
pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at the National Children's
Medical Center in Washington D.C. and another in ophthalmic
genetics from Johns Hopkins University - Wilmer Eye
Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. She is board
certified in both ophthalmology and medical genetics.

JEFFREY BENNETT, M.D., PhD., is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Ophthalmology and a specialist in neuro-ophthalmology. His clinical interests include optic nerve disorders, double vision, nystagmus, optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis. In the laboratory, Doctor Bennett studies the role of the neurotrophins in eye development and is using molecular immunology techniques to determine the cause of optic neuritis and big blindspot syndromes.
Doctor Bennett received his medical and doctorate degrees from Stanford University and completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Colorado Denver. Fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology was completed at the University of Pennsylvania and
Scheie Eye Institute.

REBECCA SANDS BRAVERMAN, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. She is a specialist in pediatric eye disease and adult strabismus. She provides care at the Children's Hospital of Denver, Denver Health, and the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute at the University of Colorado, Fitzsimons campus.
Doctor Sands completed medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her surgery internship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. After her internship, she was a Flight Surgeon in the United States Navy, stationed in Pensacola, Florida and Rota, Spain. Her ophthalmology residency was completed at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

STEVEN BRITT, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology and in the Department of Ophthalmology. His research is in the area of basic aspects of color vision and the genetics of retinal development. His research is funded by grants from the National Eye Institute.
Doctor Britt received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed postdoctoral training at the University of Virginia and the University of California, San Diego. Before moving to the University of Colorado, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

RICHARD
DAVIDSON, M.D., is an Assistant

completing his fellowship in cornea, external disease
and refractive surgery, Doctor Davidson joined the staff
at the University of Colorado. He specializes in the

including corneal transplantation. In addition, he is
a specialist in cataract surgery and an expert in the
area of refractive surgery and complications arising
from refractive surgery.

MICHAEL ERLANGER, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmolgy and is a specialist in corneal transplantation, refractive surgery and cataract surgery. His research interests include corneal prosthesis implantation, anterior and posterior lamellar corneal graft development, and the biomechanical changes of the cornea after refrative surgery.
Doctor Erlanger received his Medical Degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pennsylvania, and completed his Transitional Internship at the University of Pittsburgh, Shadyside Hospital. NICHOLAS FABEROWSKI, M.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. He is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. KARA HANSON , O.D., is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology and is the Director of the Vision Rehabilitation Service at the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute. This service helps those who are visually impaired use their remaining vision as efficiently as possible through the use of optical and non-optical devices and adaptive techniques.
Doctor Hanson received her Doctor of Optometry and training in Low Vision from the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO) in Houston, TX. Before moving to Colorado, she was a member of the clinical faculty at UHCO and its Center for Sight Enhancement and satellite clinic at Baylor College of Medicine.

WILLIAM JACKSON, M.D., is Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus. Doctor Jackson specializes in the medical management of diabetic retinal disease. The Barbara Davis Center is currently participating in national clinical diabetic retinopathy trials. J. MARK PETRASH, Ph.D. has joined the Department of Ophthalmology as Professor and Vice Chair of Research. Dr. Petrash received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in Human Biological Chemistry and Genetics. He completed his Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Biochemistry at New York University in New York, New York.
Prior to coming to Colorado, Dr. Petrash served as Professor and Director of Research in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Professor of Genetics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Petrash carries out research to discover the causes of vision disease using biochemical and genetic approaches in the laboratory. Work by his team of scientists focuses on novel strategies to prevent diabetic eye disease and cataract, two of the most common causes of blindness.
