Our faculty includes:

J. Bronwyn Bateman, M.D. is Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology as well as Director of the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute.  Dr. Bateman arrived on April 1, 1995 and succeeds Dr. Philip Ellis, who had led the Department for thirty-four years. Dr. Bateman was previously at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles and specializes in pediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Bateman is active in research of the molecular genetics of inherited eye disease.  She is currently the President of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology.

Richard Davidson, M.D. is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology.  He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the cornea, including corneal transplantation.  Dr. Davidson is a specialist in cataract surgery and the area of refractive surgery.

Arlene Drack, M.D. is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology.  She specializes in the medical an surgical treatment of pediatric eye diseases and both adult and pediatric and adult strabismus.  Dr. Drack's areas of interest are pediatric cataracts, hereditary eye diseases, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.

Virkam Durairaj, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology.  He specializes in the area of Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery.  Dr. Durairaj has research and clinical interests in the areas of thyroid eye disease, orbital tumors, periorbital reconstruction, and cosmetic eyelid surgery.

Philip P. Ellis, M.D. is Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ellis is a leading authority on ocular pharmacology and has a subspecialty interest in glaucoma.

Naresh Mandava, M.D. is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of vitreoretinal diseases. Dr. Mandava's research interests include photodynamic therapy, advanced imaging techniques and gene therapy for retinal diseases.

Michael May, M.D. is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of Ophthalmology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. May specializes in the treatment of glaucoma with research interests in studying the efficacy of medications in glaucoma.
