Other facts about laser vision correction surgery

LASIK is an off-label use of the excimer laser. The laser has been approved for PRK only, and only for certain ranges of nearsightedness and astigmatism. The FDA has not said that LASIK is bad or good; they have taken the position that this is a practice of medicine issue between the physician and patients. A Black-box laser is a non-FDA-approved laser. Many practitioners have obtained good results with black box lasers, but some of these lasers have been associated with significant harm.
