Research

Like most otolaryngology departments, the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado Denver conducts two general types of research consisting of either clinical or basic studies. The clinical class of research is mainly performed in patients, whereas basic or experimental research is primarily conducted in either normal humans or animal models representing varying clinical problems. Clinical research programs within the Department cover all the various subspecialties represented including otology, audiology, laryngology, rhinology, reconstructive surgery, taste and smell, and head and neck cancer. Similarly, experimental research programs also cover a wide range of interests including hearing, smell and taste, and balance and dizziness. Details of all these programs of research will be presented in the following information.
