1. The ostium secundum atrial septal defect occurs in the area of the foramen ovale and is the most common atrial septal defect. Down’s syndrome is associated with an increased incidence of this defect.

 

2.  Increased pulmonary vascular resistance with development of pulmonary hypertension resulted in reversal of the left to right shunt and cyanosis (Eisenmenger syndrome).
