Answers:

1. Necrotizing acute arteritis

2. Neuritis, proteinuria due to a systemic vasculitis

3. Cushing's syndrome from steroids: Infections, osteoporosis, adrenal atrophy,

4. Myocardial infarction (this was documented histologically). She may have an arrhythmia as well.

5. Antigen antibody complexes are deposited in vessel walls and fix complement eliciting an acute inflammatory response compromising vessel lumen. Rheumatoid factor anti-IgG
may be involved.

Students should know the main features of the related diseases: Wegener's granulomatosis, Polyarteritis nodosa, Hypersensitivity vasculitis, Giant cell arteritis , Buerger's disease.
