1. Describe the findings in the following sections of lung from an 80 year old man (Figure 1A H&E and Figure 1B Iron stain). What are your diagnoses ?

2. What are the likely clinical symptoms based on the above?

3. What are possible etiologies for the above diagnosis?

CASE 10 B

A 70 year old female presented with increasing shortness of breath. She had a longstanding history of mitral stenosis.

Questions:

1. The patient’s liver has the following appearance (Figure 2A gross and Figure 2B histology). Describe the findings.

2. What is the diagnosis and pathogenesis of this finding ? What other organ often shows similar findings?

3. What are other causes?

4. What arrhythmia is commonly found in patients with mitral stenosis.
