Frank J. Accurso, MD, received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 1974. His residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology were completed at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1977 and 1980, respectively. Dr. Accurso joined the faculty of the Departments of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 1979. He has served as Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center since 1987 and Section Head of Pulmonary Medicine since 2003.
Dr. Accurso is internationally known for his work with newborn screening and the description of early lung disease in infants with cystic fibrosis. He has been acclaimed as one of the top clinical researchers and care providers by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Following the selection of the University of Colorado as one of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Therapeutics Development Centers, he has been increasingly active in the development and study of new therapies and techniques for outcomes research. He is also a consultant or Advisory Board member for many corporations.
Dr. Accurso has been honored with many awards for his work, most recently with a Career Teaching Scholar Award for his outstanding contributions to pediatric education from the Department of Pediatrics and with the Paul Di Sant’Agnese Award for Scientific Achievement in Cystic Fibrosis from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He is a member of numerous committees, institutionally and nationwide, and is a sought-after reviewer for medical journals, as well as a widely published author. He is active on two editorial boards.
Dr. Accurso is board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology, and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
