Todd C. Carpenter, MD
Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Todd C. Carpenter, MD, earned his medical degree from the Brown-Dartmouth Program in Medicine (1990). He completed his pediatric residency training at the University of Chicago (1993) and his fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Colorado (1997). Dr. Carpenter joined the faculty of The Children's Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics Section of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in 1997. He serves as an attending physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital. From 1999 to 2002 he co-directed the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program.
Dr. Carpenter’s research interests include altitude-related illness in children and the effects of viral infections on the pulmonary vasculature and lung fluid balance. He is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to study the effects of hypoxia and viral infections on the expression of angiogenic mediators in the lung and the possible contribution of those mediators to pulmonary edema formation. Dr. Carpenter is an invited reviewer for many medical journals. He is widely published and has presented his work at regional and international conferences.
Dr. Carpenter is board certified in Pediatrics and subspecialty certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
