Emily L. Dobyns, MD

Emily L. Dobyns, MD, earned her medical degree from Michigan State University in 1985. She completed her pediatric residency training at Michigan State University in 1988 and her fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Colorado School in 1991.
Dr. Dobyns joined the faculty of The Children's Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics Section of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in 1991. She is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Dobyns’ research efforts are primarily directed towards clinical studies of novel therapies for pediatric acute respiratory failure. She is the recipient of a five-year NIH grant to study the interactive effects of high frequency oscillatory ventilation and inhaled nitric oxide in the treatment of acute hypoxemic respiratory failure in pediatrics. She is also coordinating a multicenter trial (with twelve participating centers) to investigate the effects of lung protective strategy of ventilation and inhaled nitric oxide in acute respiratory failure.
Dr. Dobyns is a reviewer for the top medical journals in critical care medicine. She has published many journal articles and book chapters and is frequently invited to present both nationally and abroad.
Dr. Dobyns is board certified in Pediatrics and subspecialty certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
