Timothy P. Garrington, MD

Tim Garrington, MD, earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1991. He completed his Pediatric Residency in 1994 at the University of North Carolina and a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in 2000.
Dr. Garrington joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 2000. He currently serves as one of the Directors of the Pediatric
Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
Dr. Garrington has received grant support for several research projects, pursuing his interests in signal transduction pathways in cell cycle regulation, function, and oncogenesis. He is published in many professional medical journals.
A more recent interest of Dr. Garrington’s is medical education. He is Co-Director of the Blood and Lymph block of the first-year medical school curriculum and is involved with development of cases and as a facilitator for problem-based learning sessions for first- and second-year medical students. In addition, Dr. Garrington is pursuing research in medical education related to how doctors communicate with patients. In particular, he is interested in how comfortable they feel and how skillful they are in delivering bad news. He plans to develop and implement a curriculum to teach these skills to pediatric subspecialty fellows.
Dr. Garrington is a member of many professional societies and institutional committees. He currently serves on the Committee on Fellowship Education (COFE) for the University of Colorado Pediatric Residency Program. He also is serving on the Training Subcommittee for the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO).
Dr. Garrington is board certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
