Brian S. Greffe, MD
Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Brian S. Greffe, MD, received his medical degree from McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Quebec, Canada, in 1983. He completed his Residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, in 1986, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in 1989. Dr. Greffe joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 1989.
Dr. Greffe has served as Director of the Oncology Long-Term Follow-up Committee since 1992 and as Medical Director of the Butterfly Program, a pediatric palliative hospice care program, since 1999. Dr. Greffe is also the Executive Director of the Children’s Hospice International (CHI) Colorado PACC Grant and Director of the National CHI PACC.
Dr. Greffe’s major scientific interests include late effects in pediatric cancer survivors; cancer and coagulation; anthracycline-induced cardiac toxicity; pediatric solid tumors; and pediatric palliative and hospice care. He has received grant support for many research projects. Dr. Greffe is widely published in both medical journals and chapters in medical textbooks. He has been invited to speak at symposia and meetings both nationally and internationally. In 2008, he is the Plenary Session Keynote Speaker for the Colorado Hospice Organization Fall Conference.
Dr. Greffe has been recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including recently the Award of Courage from the Porter Hospice Foundation; The Children’s Hospital Outstanding Service Award; and the Department of Pediatrics Outstanding Teaching Award. He is consistently listed in 5280 Magazine’s “Top Doctors in Denver.”
Dr. Greffe is board certified in Pediatrics, in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
