D. Dunbar Ivy, MD, earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1988. At the University of Colorado School of Medicine he completed his Pediatric Residency in 1991 and his Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology in 1994. Dr. Ivy joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 1994. He was appointed Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program in 2003 and Section Head of Cardiology in 2003.

Dr. Ivy is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. He has held the Selby’s Endowed Chair of Pediatric Cardiology since 2003. In 2005 he joined the Scientific Leadership Council of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and was named one of “Denver’s Top Doctors” by 5280 Magazine. His Pulmonary Hypertension Program received the “Children’s Choice Award” from The Children’s Hospital in 2001.

Dr. Ivy is a member of numerous professional societies and institutional committees. He serves on the review boards of fifteen prestigious medical journals, as well as the Editorial Boards for the American Thoracic Society and for Congenital Heart Disease: Clinical Studies from Fetus to Adulthood. He has published hundreds of articles, book chapters, abstracts, and scholarly reviews, and he is a sought-after speaker worldwide.

Dr. Ivy has received grant support for many research studies and ongoing clinical trials. His major scientific interests include Primary Pulmonary Hypertension: pulmonary hypertension secondary to congenital heart disease, evaluation of pulmonary hypertension by echocardiography, treatment of pulmonary hypertension; Pulmonary Vascular Biology: endothelin, nitric oxide; Fetal Circulation: regulation of fetal pulmonary blood flow, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn; Cardiac Intensive Care; Cardiac Transplantation; and Cardiac Catheterization.

Dr. Ivy is board certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Cardiology.
