Joseph G. Morelli, MD, graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1981. After completing his pediatric residency at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in 1984, he undertook a fellowship in dermatology at Harvard's Photomedicine Unit, which he finished in 1985. At the University of Colorado, he completed a further residency in dermatology and an additional fellowship specializing in immunodermatology, in 1988 and 1989, respectively. Dr. Morelli joined the faculty of the Departments of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and The Children's Hospital in 1989. In 2006 he was appointed Section Head of Dermatology in the Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Morelli is the Director of the Regional Vascular Birthmark Center at the Anschutz Cancer Pavilion at Fitzsimons as well as a consultant in dermatology for The Children's Hospital.
Dr. Morelli's major scientific interests include hemangiomas, birthmarks, laser surgery, nevi development, photobiology, eicosanoid metabolism, vitiligo, melanocyte biology, and general pediatric dermatology. He is also involved in the research of skin cancer prevention for children.
Dr. Morelli has been widely published throughout his career and is a reviewer for numerous medical journals. He has been an active member of the Sturge-Weber-Foundation Medical Advisory Board for more than 10 years and was appointed chair in 1999. Since 1992 he has consistently been listed as one of the "Best Doctors in America."
Dr. Morelli is board certified in Pediatrics and Dermatology.
