Rachelle Nuss, MD
Professor of Pediatrics
Rachelle Nuss, MD, earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, in 1981. She completed a Residency in Pediatrics and did a year of laboratory oncology research at Boston City Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1984 and 1985, respectively. She also finished a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in 1987.
Dr. Nuss joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 1988. She was Associate Director of the Mountain States Regional Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Center from 1991 to 2001. Since 2002, Dr. Nuss has served as Director of the Pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic at The Children's Hospital as well as Associate Director of the Colorado Sickle Cell Treatment and Research Center. She was appointed Professor of Pediatrics in 2004.
Dr. Nuss’s research interests include hemostasis, and hemoglobinopathies including sickle cell anemia. She is the recipient of extensive grant funding supporting her research work. She served as the Co-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Pediatric General Clinical Research Center for six years. Dr. Nuss is a peer reviewer for many professional medical journals and is widely published in the literature herself.
Dr. Nuss was recently chosen again as one of “America’s Top Doctors” and has also been named a “Top Pediatrician.” She is a member of many professional organizations at the national as well as the local and institutional levels. Dr.Nuss is a popular speaker both nationally and internationally and was recently invited to present at the inaugural meeting of the Sickle cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium on transition from pediatric to adult care held in Florida.
Dr. Nuss is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
