Patti J. Thureen, MD
Professor of Pediatrics
Patti J. Thureen, MD, received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. She completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1982. Dr. Thureen then spent nearly two years as the Director of the Neonatal Nursery at the University of the West Indies, in Kingston, Jamaica. She pursued a Fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine from 1988 to 1991. Dr. Thureen joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 1991 and was appointed Professor of Pediatrics in 2005.
Dr. Thureen’s scientific interests include fetal and neonatal nutrition; fetal and neonatal amino acid and protein metabolism; neonatal energy expenditure, nutrient balance, and body composition; and stable isotope methodology. She has received significant grant support for her research work.
Dr. Thureen is a member of many national professional societies and committees, and she is an active participant in institutional committees as well. She is a peer reviewer for numerous medical journals and has published extensively in the medical literature. Dr. Thureen is a popular speaker nationally and internationally.
Dr. Thureen is board certified in Pediatrics and in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
