Shale L. Wong, MD, MSPH

Shale L. Wong, MD, MSPH, earned her medical degree in 1993 from the University of Utah School of Medicine. At the University of Colorado School of Medicine, she completed her Pediatric Residency (1996), a Chief Residency (1997), a fellowship in Primary Care Research (1999), as well as her Masters of Science in Public Health (1999).
Dr. Wong joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Denver Health and Hospitals as a primary care physician in 1999. In 2005, she moved her clinical practice to The Children's Hospital where she continues patient care and teaching.
Dr. Wong enjoys teaching responsibilities throughout the School of Medicine, including
extensive involvement in Foundations of Doctoring courses, required for all medical students. She has served as the Pediatric Clerkship Director since 2003 and as Co-Director for the Leadership, Education, Advocacy, Development and Scholarship program (CU-LEADS) since 2005. For several years Dr. Wong also contributed to the Clinical Core Education Working Group, which developed the new curriculum for the School of Medicine.
Dr. Wong is a grant recipient for several research projects, including “LEAD—Leadership, Education and Advocacy Development,” whose mission is to expose medical students to the social, cultural, and economic antecedents of health and illness and provide them with the vision and skills to work effectively as advocates in their communities to promote health.
Dr. Wong is an accomplished speaker, both regionally and nationally, and has published in peer-reviewed professional journals. She received a clinical faculty service award from Healthy Beginnings at Warren Village, in 2003, as well as several awards from the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. CU-LEADS was recognized with the Chancellor’s Diversity Award in 2007. She is a member of many professional societies and serves on the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) as Co-Leader of the Faculty Development Task Force.
Dr. Wong is board certified in Pediatrics.
