CHA/PA Program
Clinical Services
The CHA/PA is a primary care physician assistant with specialized education in the care of infants, children and adolescents, as well as education in the care of adult patients. The CHA/PA Program at UCD has evolved to meet the needs of Colorado's population, and today's graduates are prepared to provide comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages and practice under the rules of the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners. Clinical experience during the first year of training has been an integral part of the CHA/PA Program since its inception. Although the emphasis remains on pediatric care, the Program's primary care curriculum prepares students to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients of all ages. Graduates are employed in many settings including managed care organizations, community health centers, private physician offices, public health agencies, hospitals, school-based adolescent clinics, emergency departments and rural and inner city delivery sites. Subspecialty areas of practice include orthopedics, surgery, emergency medicine, urgent care, otolaryngology, allergy and asthma, neurology, neonatology, and child protection and advocacy.
For over 30 years, CHA/PAs have functioned as colleagues of physicians and other allied health professionals, providing comprehensive health services, including not only the evaluation and treatment of medical disease, but also patient education and counseling, anticipatory guidance and management of behavioral, psychosocial and developmental disorders.
