About Denver

This dynamic city is located on the high plains against a backdrop of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Denver is unique in that it successfully blends the sophisticated urban beat of the city with easy access to the solitude and silence of mountain wilderness. Close to three million people of widely diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds live in the seven-county metro area. Denver itself has close to half a million people. About one-third of the population is of Hispanic background; another 11.2 percent are of African American heritage.

Denver is at the heart of Colorado’s cultural, recreational and educational amenities. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is a multi-venue complex, larger than Lincoln Center in New York and home to the symphony, theater companies, ballet, and opera. Denver is known for the spectacular parks throughout the city--flower gardens in the summer and recreational activities year round. City Park, close by the hospitals, includes the Denver Zoo, Museum of Nature and Science, fountains, tennis courts, golf course and acres of Colorado landscape. Sports fans also love Denver because of the exciting professional teams.

LoDo - Historic Lower Downtown Denver

Downtown Denver is a vibrant business community with shopping and entertainment areas just blocks from the state capitol, main library and art museum. Nearby, the Cherry Creek arts and shopping district features world-class dining and shopping.

Even the weather is terrific in Denver. Yes, there’s snow. But there’s lots more sun than snow, with over 300 sunny days a year. Ski areas, hiking and biking trails and the national forest system are an easy drive from Denver. The Colorado mountains provide both winter and summer fun!

Be assured that affordable housing options are readily available in Denver's attractive residential areas near the hospitals. Many house single residents live within the three-mile triangle defined by the locations of the three primary teaching hospitals and spend approximately $800-$1,100 a month for a 1-2 bedroom (1,000 sq ft) apartment. Most residents with significant others spend between $1,200-$1,800 a month for larger apartments or homes and also live within 20 minutes of the hospitals.
