Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes
Education Overview
The Barbara Davis Center has a strong commitment to educating and training the next generation of pediatricians. Our faculty teaches and mentors fellows, residents, and medical students while providing specialized learning opportunities in the care and prevention of and ongoing search for a cure for type 1 diabetes.
The faculty of the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes participates in a number of teaching activities. Medical students rotate through the Center on elective half-day rotations. Endocrine fellows, along with participants from the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program,
also rotate through the Center.
A national conference, Practical Ways to Achieve Targets in Diabetes Care, for health professionals is held every two years in Keystone, Colorado. This course is designed to help health care providers caring for adolescents and adults with diabetes, including but not limited to, internists, pediatricians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and certified diabetes educators.
Basic science faculty provide mentorship to predoctoral students (primarily in immunology research), postdoctoral and endocrine fellows from around the world.
The Barbara Davis Center has an active predoctoral and postdoctoral research training program which includes both basic and clinical scientists and physicians covering a range of disciplines, including immunology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, and population genetics. Studentships and fellowships are currently provided from NIH training grants in immunology and pediatrics, individual Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International Research Fellowships, and American Diabetes Association Career Development and Mentor-Based Fellowship Awards.
