Welcome to Cardiology
The Department of Pediatrics Section of Cardiology is recognized for reconstructive heart surgery, heart transplantation, heart catheterization, specialized anesthesia, and nursing for children and young adults with heart disease. We perform specialized interventions - both surgical and noninvasive - to improve quality of life for children and their families.
The Section currently has forty pediatric faculty members and ten fellows. Our inpatient clinical services are provided at The Children's Hospital (TCH), in Aurora, Colorado. We are located on the third floor of the main hospital.
Our faculty are involved in numerous leading-edge clinical trials and research projects. A continuing commitment to advance pediatric cardiac treatment relies on the willingness to incorporate research into everyday medicine. In addition:
- The Section of Cardiology within TCH has been the top pediatric heart transplant center in the nation for more than five years, performing more pediatric heart transplants than any other hospital.
- Our Pulmonary Hypertension Program is one of the premier programs in the U.S.
- Our Prenatal Cardiac Diagnosis Program has the ability to detect congenital heart defects as early as 18 weeks of gestation.
- Our Arrhythmia Center is an internationally recognized program for children.
- Our Adult Congenital Heart Clinic is held at the University of Colorado Hospital and serves patients over 18 who have congenital heart disease.
- Our Echocardiography Laboratory provides state-of-the-art, noninvasive imaging for unborn fetuses, infants, children, and adolescents at our main hospital and by telemedicine 24/7.
