Infection Prevention Program
Epidemiology is responsible for The Children's Hospital Infection Prevention Program, which utilizes surveillance methods, microbial and environmental epidemiology techniques, and cluster analysis and response to monitor, resolve, and prevent hospital-associated infection.

Clinical Microbiology, Microbial Epidemiology, and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
In collaboration with the Department of Pathology and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, we employ optimal clinical microbiologic and molecular services to maximize the appropriate diagnosis of individual as well as clusters of infectious disease and to correlate proper diagnosis with appropriate antibiotic use and prevention.

The Children's Hospital Outcomes Program
In collaboration with the Quality and Patient Safety Department, Epidemiology is responsible for The Children's Hospital Outcomes Program (CHOP), which utilizes epidemiologic techniques to analyze disease trends and outcomes, decrease costs, and improve clinical services in hospital settings. In collaboration with the Children's Outcomes Research Program (COR), we actively support outcomes research at TCH.

Clinical Informatics Program
In collaboration with the Department of Quality and Patient Safety, Epidemiology provides the academic infrastructure for the Clinical Informatics Program, which provides quality and outcomes informatics, research informatics, clinical decision support, and operational analytics for The Children's Hospital faculty and staff.

The Community Epidemiology Program
The mission of our Community Child Health Outcomes Program is to improve health outcomes of all children in optimal community practice settings through the use of population-based data analysis, research, and advocacy. A major product is the annual State of Health of Colorado's Children report that evaluates population-based health outcomes (vaccine-preventable diseases, hospitalization rates) of children in Colorado.
