Research
Funded clinical research is being conducted in the following areas:
- Treatment of focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (collaborative studies with the Southwest Pediatric Nephrology Study Group), Principal Investigator: Dr. Douglas Ford, The Children's Hospital;
- The effect of growth hormone in children with chronic renal insufficiency (collaborative studies with the North American Pediatric Renal Transplant Cooperative Study, Principal Investigator: Dr. Gary Lum, The Children's Hospital, supported by the National Institutes of Health; and
- The effect of blood pressure control with ACE inhibition on renal cystic growth in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), Principal Investigator: Dr. Melissa Cadnapaphornchai, The Children's Hospital, supported by the National Institutes of Health.
Basic science research is directed toward the study of the effect of primary polydipsia on aquaporins and sodium transport and the effect of cyclooxygenase inhibitors on water metabolism in liver disease and the evaluation of aquaporin excretion in disordered water balance (Principal Investigator: Dr. Melissa Cadnapaphornchai, The Children's Hospital, supported by the National Institutes of Health).
