Pediatric CTRC Core Laboratory
The Core Laboratory, under the directorship of Frank Accurso
(Medical Director) and Peggy Emmett (Technical Director), is staffed by
senior medical technologists, and is located in Room 3C03 at The Children's
Hospital. The Core Laboratory is available to develop and provide a broad
spectrum of high complexity chemical and immunological non-routine assays
for approved CTRC protocols. These assays are intended to complement
assays undertaken in the investigator's own laboratory and those that
are neither available in the hospital clinical laboratory, nor conveniently
available elsewhere. Contact Peggy Emmett for specific information on
Core Lab tests or their current schedule and availability. See
current contact info for the Core Laboratory here.
The Pediatric CTRC Core Laboratory continues to be involved with clinical
research education, and recently established a program to teach and train
Clinical Fellows. This rotation is an integral part of the University
of Colorado Clinical Science Certificate and Ph.D. programs funded through
a NIH K30 grant. This program teaches "good laboratory practice" as well
as different biochemical techniques that are tailored to each fellow's
research needs.
The Core Laboratory is accredited through CAP (Commission on
Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists) and
CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act).
