Welcome the Sikela Lab GVE Site
We are interested in human genome variation, evolution and disease and are using genome-wide experimental and computational strategies to identify key genes and genomic changes related to these processes. Among specific areas of interest are genes underlying cognitive function and dysfunction, genetic factors influencing susceptibility to drug and alcohol abuse, and genes that contribute to lineage-specific traits in human and non-human primate species. Gene copy number variation is being increasingly recognized as a major contributor to human disease and evolution, and we are using gene-based, genome-wide aCGH as a means of studying gene copy number changes both with the human species as well as between human and other primate lineages.
