
The Colorado BNICE Training Center will be a Regional Training Center for the National Disaster Life Support Foundation and will offer a variety of basic and advanced disaster life support classes. All classes will provide the student the opportunity to receive a three year certification in the disaster curriculum.
The City and County of Denver, Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management has developed Citizen Emergency Response Training as a partnering effort between emergency services and the people they serve. The goal is for emergency personnel to train citizens of our community in basic preparedness and skills.
American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The American Red Cross Mile High Chapter training opportunities include individual and group training including First Aid, CPR, AED, Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard/Water Safety, Babysitting Training, and Instructor Training courses.
As a response to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, federal, state and local governments have made equipping and training first responders a top priority. In 2003, Denver was selected to receive grant funding for the Denver Urban Area. Denver Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Homeland Security Training is available to both UASI and North Central Region (NCR) partners on a priority basis with additional class vacancies open to other Colorado agencies.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers independent study (self-paced) courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. All are offered free-of-charge to those who qualify for enrollment. FEMA’s Independent Study Program offers courses that support the nine mission areas identified by the National Preparedness Goal: Incident Management, Operational Planning, Disaster Logistics, Emergency Communications, Public Disaster Communications, Service to Disaster Victims, Continuity Programs, Integrated Preparedness, and Hazard Mitigation.
